Are your sins covered?
All like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, there is none righteous not even one, there is none who understands, none seeks after God. all have turned aside together they have become useless, there is none who does good….your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that does not hear.
Sin, does so much harm to us, its kills marriages and leaves innocents parties suffering, it brought diseases that kills husbands to leave wives lonely and sorrowful, not to mentions the many orphans we see suffering the tragedies they never intended, sin causes greedy leading to corruption where one government official is given money to buy medicines for millions of people who are unable to afford medication and he consumes all of it, with or without remorse. Sin kills relationships and you see a son chasing his daddy with a machete, a father abandoning his children to suffer at the expense of a new girl in town. In one way or the other, we are all affected by sin, and sometimes we think that maybe after this life, we will be done with the tragedies of sin, you often hear people say during the funerals that “he has finished his earthly duties, so let him go and rest.” Rest in peace in the common message, the other would be, May the almighty God judge him with mercy! I wish this was true for all, at least if it was true that sin has no effect on our eternal destination, life would have been easier, because then you know that “let me do my suffering here, and soon I will go home and rest.”
Unfortunately, sin has eternal consequences, it doesn’t only affect our relationships with fellow human beings; actually its effects do not even start from spoiling our personal relationship, but every sin, whether it inflicts pain on us or not, It’s a direct violation of God’s word. You see as humans we only find sin unpleasant if things do not go our way, for example when an adulterous man is doing his thing of having more than one woman, it’s fun, actually he even thinks that he is getting to a better version of manhood, but if another adulterous man comes and encroaches on one of his women, he will think of adultery being a very bad thing, he may even exchange blows. Now, whether this man believes it or not, adultery has always been a sin against God even during the times it was fun for him to do. Are we not all of us like this? Sin is so bad when it’s putting us in the corner, but when we are scooping some good juice out of it, we can even give it sweeter names so that it doesn’t sound as harmful and scary as God says it is! Friend, sin is sin, sin harmful this doesn’t change whether you are gaining fame, money, pleasure, satisfaction or pain, suffering, loss out it, because at all levels, sin is a direct violation of God’s word and therefore, it directly attacks God with a blow in the face.
Sin is a direct violation of God’s word and therefore it makes a sinner a rebel toward God. In His sovereignty, God has prepared a penalty for all of the rebels and none for sure will escape. The bible says “…..but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed….. [Acts 17:30-31].” And for those who are found guilty, they will be thrown in the lake of fire to be consciously tormented for eternity [Rev 20:15].
Sin is very dangerous because it makes us rebels toward the almighty God who has the final say and going to judge the entire world and those He finds guilty, will serve a penalty in the lake of fire for eternity. Maybe you are thinking, I am not as sinful, my sins are few and not as dangerous has so and so’s sins. The bible says that we are all sinners, all of us; none is righteous not even one, for we have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Our sin has separated us from God, our sin has made us enemies with God. None deserves His forgiveness, because all us have sinned and willingly done so. This is the bad news!!!
The good news however is that, God is His love, mercy and grace, He sent His Son Jesus Christ to come and pay the debt which we had with Him. God commanded that we be obedient to Him, but from our great father Adam, this failed us and until now, no man has perfectly obeyed God as we must. But Christ came, He obeyed all the commands of God Has He required of us of to obey yet failed and still fail. But Christ did, the bible says He was tempted in every way as we are yet He did not sin. Even at the time of His trial, the authorities where He was taken to be judged like Pilate said, “I don’t find any fault in this man” [Luke 23:4] again they took Him to Pilate and Pilate to them “and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him. Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him. [Luke 23:14-15]” Jesus was a sinless man, yet God cause Him to bore our grieves and to carry our sorrows, He was crushed and smitten for our iniquities. Jesus lived a sinless life, yet died a death of the sinners.
“In His sinless life, He lived for us a life God required us to live but we couldn’t,
in His Death He died the death he died the death we had to die as
penalty for our sinful life.”
Therefore, if any man is to become right with God [justified], they need to go through Jesus Christ alone who lived a sinless life for them and died the death they had do die as a penalty of their sinfulness. For the bible says “yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. [Gal 2:16]”
In this this piece of scripture we learn the following things:
- Obedience to the laws or doing good works like charity and good morals does not make a person right with God.
- A sinner is made right with God [justified] through placing their faith or trust in Jesus Christ, that He lived the life God required of them to live and died a death God had set for them as a penalty for their sinfulness.
- No sinner will be made right by merely obeying the law of God or doing good works.
Friends by far we know that all religions in this world come to one conclusion, do as many good works, try to be obedient to the commands of God, and if by any chance your good works amounts to a number bigger than your bad deeds, you will enter into glory and be with the Lord for eternity. But as we have already seen in God’s word, no amount of good works will make a sinner right with God, not any amount. The only thing the sinner must do to have peace with God is to place their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ who lived a life God required of the sinner [a thing sinner wouldn’t even come close to] and who died the death which a sinner needed to die as penalty for their sin [a thing Christ never deserved to do at all].
Salvation is only Christ, He is the way, and the truth, and the life no one comes to the Father but through Him [John 14:6]. The world may suggest many other ways to come to the Father, but that’s not any less than a mentally disturbed person pronouncing themselves to be president of the nation and therefore match as though it was so! God has the final say in this matter, He calls the shots not anyone that so wishes. Don’t be wrong on it!
The bible tells us that “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. [Romans 8:1]. “The law brought condemnation [Romans 3:19-20], but Christ having obeyed the entire law for us, and served our punishment for not fully obeying it, He set us free and therefore, instead of condemnation before God, we have peace with Him since we have been reconciled to Him through the life Christ lived for us and Payment He therefore made for us who have placed our faith [trust] in Him and those who are yet to trust Him. Christ paid it all! For those who have trusted in Him, they don’t owe God any single debt! What a joy to know that I couldn’t do anything about my sinfulness but God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love which He loved me, He graciously made me alive together with Christ [Ephesians 2:4-5].
Beloved, that’s the difference Christianity has with all the other religions, that a Holy God would put aside His glory [Phil 2:6-8] and put on fresh [John 1:14] to come and live the life He required a sinner to live but couldn’t, and died a death a sinner was supposed to die. What manner of love is this, that a righteous man would take a place of worthless man! WHAT MANNER OF LOVE IS THIS!!!
Friends, the day you get saved or will get saved [I hope it’s today if you haven’t come to Him yet] God looks at your shame, guilt, worthless and wickedness and He covers it with the righteousness of Christ. At that very point, you become right with Him [Justified] and it doesn’t matter what kind of life you have lived, Christ’s righteousness is enough to cover all of your guilt, shame, worthlessness and wickedness. No sin is too big not to fit under the covering of Christ’s righteousness and no sin is too dirty not to be cleansed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
Now, if you are here and your sins are not yet covered by the righteousness of Christ, what are you waiting for? Because if you died tonight, you will for sure stand before God with your guilt, shame, worthlessness and wickedness and to be honest with you; you will go to hell! Come to Jesus, He will cover your sins, He will you clean with His precious blood. Some of us are already cleansed by Him, we are covered under His righteousness, we are safe there, safe forever and ever! Come, He will receive you the way you are!
For us who have already trusted Christ, do we really love Him, are we obedient to Him or after paying for sin and graciously saving us, now we are stubbing Him in the back, living the way we see fit? Christ demands our attention and obedience. He demands for our time, resources and hearts. He is a jealous God; He doesn’t share His possessions with anyone else. Indeed, we are His possession and our main Job is to display His glory in this dark world. What is your life like, is there any sin in your life that has proven to be more important than the Christ who died for you? You really love that sin more than you love Him, yes you do, because whenever He speaks of it, even now, you find a reason to justify it. Let me tell you, Christ is not a weakling that He cannot do anything to get your attention and time, He is just being gracious for now, giving you an opportunity to learn the easy way, but if you refuse, He will for sure teach you the hard way. He is the lamb of God, but at the same time the Lion of Judah! What will you choose, learn easy or hard way?
